Having read a lot of opinions from various football blogs, I don't think I'll echo anything they've said, well, not much anyways. Yes, it's been a dull WC apart from Germany's showing. There's a lot of noise being made about the Vuvuzelas, noise which seems to be noisier than the horn itself. Keepers were complaining before the tournament began that the Jabulani was unpredictable and horrible. So far the only 2 goals that have looked to support that claim appear to be more caused by goalkeeping howlers. The ball looks to be giving strikers a harder time if anything, seeing shots fly in to row z over and over again it was as if they were purposely trying to score 3 points.
Something I do want to have a say about is my own personal view. It’s weird that this time around the WC seems to have more hype about it. Maybe it’s because football’s a beautiful game and more people are taking interest. Or maybe the last time the WC was around I was a little too naively stuck in my own bubble of socialism. Whatever the case, the amount of status updates on facebook and tweets about what’s going on is honestly boring. If it’s witty and funny, I don’t mind. But if it’s just a common statement like “Spain sucks” or “How the hell could Spain lose?!?!?!?!?!?!” then just don’t please. You’re wasting milliseconds of my time having to scroll even more just to find a decent thing to read. If you’re voicing your opinions which happen to vary from others’, go ahead. But I don’t think it’s necessary to spam something someone said 2 minutes ago and the minute before and 20 seconds ago.
If you’re wondering why it’s such a low scoring WC, and you probably are since a lot of people watching don’t really seem to understand football that deeply, it’s because the gulf in quality between the nations has disappeared. Countries which are favourites seem to have just rolled over playing pretty football without any drive or penetration as if they’d get 3 points. They probably would if it only required showing up with a high rank in FIFA. Yes, England, Italy and Spain, I’m talking about you. In contrast, USA and Paraguay deserved their point. Working nonstop to squeeze the play once it got into their third of the field. Hats off to Switzerland for putting one over Spain.
That’s what you get for starting that hag with a big mouth who keeps going on about Fabregas having ‘Barca DNA’ in him. Personally, I’d prefer Fabregas to start in his place because the Premier League is much faster paced and physically more demanding than the Spanish Premiera Liga. Which the Swiss are, physically superior to the Spanish. Besides, Fabregas seems to carry Arsenal all on his own whereas Xavi doesn’t carry Barcelona. He’s got a certain Lionel Messi to do that for him. Yeah, maybe Fabregas is short on match fitness, but if you’re team is down by a goal and have half an hour to change the outcome of the game, I’d say throw on different kind of support to provide ammunition for a different kind of artillery. Villa isn’t going to want to battle it out in the air against the Swiss centerbacks. Navas was just poor (like a latino Theo Walcott). Iniesta should’ve come off for Fabregas if Spain wanted to salvage the game. Torres should have started. Llorente as well, because of his physique.
Barca you can fuck off because you arrogant pricks seem to think that playing pretty passing is going to get you 3 points by default. ( I say Barca because, Puyol, Pique, Sergio Busquests, Iniesta, Xavi and Villa were in the starting line up.) You have no penetration (because Messi is off playing for Argentina). Ever since Barca have been trying to tap up Fabregas, they have lost my respect and if you remember their loss to Inter, they were pulling out all the stops ( Busquests' dive to get Motta sent off ) to not lose. So Spanish football isn't as great as everyone thinks it to be. They're just sore losers, the sorest the are.
